Growing Teff at Hawes

September 8, 2011

We just finished cutting our Teff Grass field.  This is the 3rd year Farmer Greg has grown Teff Grass hay.  The last couple years our Teff Grass crops have been rained on.  Fortunately, this year’s next 10 days weather looks like nice 95-105 degree days.  Hot summer days with a slight breeze are perfect conditions for sun curing the grass hay.  In about three days we will flip the grass windrows to let the bottom of the windrow to dry; then bale the grass hay about three days later.   Teff Grass is an excellent forage for both horses and cattle.
